Emma has been involved in sustainable energy since 1996, before which she worked in marketing and public relations for five years. Throughout that time, she has been closely involved with the Home Energy Conservation Act (HECA), having undertaken an MSc thesis on the Act and subsequently working on the Energy Saving Trust's HECAction programme as a key contact. She was also a member of the DETR's steering group looking at HECA implementation (1998-9) and has had peer-reviewed papers on HECA published in both Energy Policy and Local Environment.

Before setting up Impetus with Dave, Emma worked for the Association for the Conservation of Energy , managing a variety of research projects, and then briefly at the Improvement and Development Agency for Local Government, where she set up the Local Authority Energy Advisory Service (now Practical help) and was a member of the Beacon Councils selection team.

Emma was a Trustee of Eaga Partnership Charitable Trust from 2001-2004.

Little known fact - Emma is trained in techniques to use when coming face to face with large predators.
